A Low-Barrier Cashback Card for Daily Essentials

The RHB Cash Back Credit Card is positioned as an entry-level cashback card targeting everyday lifestyle expenses. Its cashback structure is based on a tiered monthly spend model, where higher rebate rates are unlocked as total monthly retail spend increases.

At the highest tier, cardholders who spend RM2,500 per month can earn 5% cashback on selected categories including Petrol, Dining, Utilities, Groceries, and Online Dining/Groceries. Each category is capped at RM10 per month, resulting in a realistic maximum cashback of around RM50 per statement cycle when spending is reasonably spread across categories. All other retail spend earns an unlimited 0.2% cashback.

The cardโ€™s appeal lies in its low income requirement and broad coverage of essential spending categories, including selected online food and grocery platforms. However, the relatively low per-category caps mean rewards are optimised through consistent, everyday usage rather than large single purchases.

While the card carries an annual fee, it is waived in the first year and subsequently waived with a minimum RM10,000 annual spend, keeping long-term holding costs manageable. Overall, the RHB Cash Back Credit Card works best for users seeking a simple, predictable cashback setup for daily expenses without the need to track rotating categories or merchant-specific promotions.
