Review

The Public Islamic Bank Gold MasterCard Credit Card-i is the entry-level version of the Platinum Mastercard, designed for cardholders with a minimum annual income of RM24,000. Its core proposition is straightforward: 1% cashback on grocery transactions, capped at RM10 per month.

In practice, this makes the card suitable for light, everyday grocery spending rather than aggressive cashback optimisation. Even with consistent grocery usage, the low monthly cap limits upside, especially when compared with competing entry-level cards offering higher percentages or caps.

Beyond cashback, the card retains the same supporting features found across Public Islamic Bank’s lower-tier lineup. This includes an easy annual fee waiver (just 12 swipes per year), a 0% balance transfer plan, and an automatic charitable contribution to Yayasan Waqaf based on dining spend. These features reinforce the card’s positioning as a simple, Shariah-compliant daily-use option.

Verdict: This is a no-frills grocery cashback card best suited for users who value simplicity, low entry requirements, and Shariah-compliant banking. While functional, its cashback rate and cap are modest, making it less compelling for users seeking stronger returns from grocery spending.

Pros

  • Low income requirement (RM24,000 per year)
  • Simple 1% cashback on grocery transactions
  • Easy annual fee waiver with just 12 swipes per year
  • Shariah-compliant with built-in charitable donation feature
  • Includes 0% balance transfer plan

Cons

  • 1% grocery cashback is uncompetitive compared to similar entry-level cards
  • Very low monthly cashback cap of RM10 limits real-world value
  • Limited upside even for regular grocery spenders
