Review
A no annual fee Visa Infinite with useful lounge access
The Public Bank Visa Infinite Credit Card is best viewed as a no annual fee premium card for occasional lounge use. The minimum income requirement is RM100,000 per year, which puts it in a competitive tier. The upside is that there is no annual fee, so it is easier to keep than many premium cards.
The cashback is simple, but not especially strong. Cardholders earn unlimited 1% cashback on overseas spending and unlimited 0.3% cashback on local spending. The lack of a cap is useful, especially for overseas transactions, but the rates are modest. This is not the card to choose if your main goal is maximising cashback.
The stronger benefit is lounge access. Cardholders get 5 complimentary domestic and overseas lounge visits per year, shared between principal and supplementary cardholders. Each visit requires minimum accumulative retail transactions of RM1,000 within 30 calendar days before and/or after the lounge access. That condition is manageable if you already use the card around your travel dates.
There are some lounge limitations to note. Although the card covers domestic and overseas lounge access, KLIA2 and the Penang domestic Plaza Premium Lounge are not eligible. The 5-visit quota is also shared, so supplementary card usage will reduce the same pool.
The card supports Google Pay and Samsung Pay, which helps for contactless spending. Public Bank cards do not support Apple Pay yet.
Other benefits include automatic travel insurance coverage up to RM500,000, e-Commerce Purchase Protection and Visa Concierge. These are useful add-ons, but the card's main practical value still comes from its no annual fee structure and lounge access.
Verdict: The Public Bank Visa Infinite is worth considering if you want a no annual fee premium card with occasional lounge access. The 5 lounge visits are useful, especially since both principal and supplementary cardholders can use the shared quota. But the cashback rates are ordinary, the income requirement is high, and some local lounge locations are excluded. If you want stronger cashback, miles or wider lounge access, there are more compelling cards at this income level.
