Review

Simple Overseas Spending, Minimal Friction

The OCBC 90°N Visa Card is positioned as a straightforward overseas spending card, favouring clarity and ease of use over aggressive rewards. Overseas retail transactions earn 5 Travel$ per RM1, and with 5,000 Travel$ redeemable for RM10, this translates to an effective 1% rebate on foreign currency spend.

Local spending earns just 1 Travel$ per RM1, making the card largely irrelevant for domestic usage. In addition, Travel$ redemption requires not only a minimum balance of 5,000 points, but also at least one qualifying travel-related transaction within the past 12 months, which adds a layer of restriction for infrequent travellers.

From a travel benefits perspective, cardholders receive 2 complimentary Plaza Premium Lounge accesses at KLIA and klia2 in the first year. To retain these lounge visits in subsequent years, a minimum RM30,000 annual retail spend is required. Lounge access is limited to Malaysian airports and does not extend overseas.

Verdict: The OCBC 90°N Visa works best as a low-maintenance overseas spending card for users who value simplicity over optimisation. While its rewards are modest and benefits limited, the structure is predictable and easy to manage without complex conditions.

Pros

  • Simple and predictable overseas reward structure.
  • First-year complimentary lounge access at KLIA and klia2.
  • Easy-to-understand Travel$ system with cash-equivalent redemption.

Cons

  • Overseas rebate rate is modest compared to competing travel cards.
  • Local spending value is negligible.
  • Lounge access is limited to Malaysia and requires annual spend to renew.
  • Travel$ redemption requires recent travel activity, reducing flexibility.
