Sustainability Within Reach

The Maybank Islamic myimpact Ikhwan Mastercard Platinum brings the myimpact cashback structure to a wider audience by significantly lowering the entry barrier. It retains the same core reward engine as the Visa Signature version, offering 8% cashback on ESG-friendly spending—such as public transport, education, pharmacies and wellness, car-sharing and e-hailing, and other sustainability-aligned categories—alongside 0.5% cashback on all contactless payments.

Both cashback streams are capped separately at RM35 per month, allowing a combined maximum rebate of RM70 monthly. At this income tier, the cap-to-spend ratio is relatively generous, meaning users can realistically extract most of the available value without aggressive optimisation.

The trade-off for the lower RM24,000 minimum income requirement comes in the form of stripped-back premium benefits. This Platinum version does not include travel insurance or concierge services, and is clearly positioned as a utility-focused cashback card rather than a lifestyle or travel product.

That said, the card’s lifetime annual fee waiver keeps holding costs at zero, making it easy to retain long term. Like the Visa version, it is best used as a complementary card to capture ESG and contactless spending—categories that are often excluded or poorly rewarded elsewhere—rather than as a standalone primary card.

Pros

  • Low income requirement (RM24,000/year) makes it highly accessible.
  • Same high 8% ESG cashback as the Visa Signature version.
  • Lifetime annual fee waiver with NO conditions.
  • Separate caps for ESG (RM35) and Contactless (RM35) categories.
  • Includes carbon footprint tracker features in the MAE app.

Cons

  • Cashback caps are relatively low at RM35 per block.
  • No travel insurance or travel-related benefits.
  • TreatsPoints are no longer awarded for any spending on this card.
  • Explicitly excludes common high-spend categories like Petrol and Utilities from cashback.
