A lower-entry GSC card for regular moviegoers
The HLB GSC Gold Credit Card is the more practical version of the GSC co-branded cards for most users. It keeps the main cinema benefits of the Platinum version, but with a much lower entry requirement. If you watch movies at GSC fairly often, this is probably the version to look at first.
The main benefit is the RM6 discount on each GSC movie ticket, capped at 12 tickets per day. That is useful if you often buy tickets for two people or a group. Cardholders also get 30% discount on F&B at GSC cinemas, which matters if popcorn and drinks are part of your usual movie spend.
New Gold cardholders can receive 5 free movie tickets. The Platinum version gives more, with 10 free tickets, but that is mostly an upfront difference. For ongoing use, the main GSC benefits are largely similar, so Gold may be easier to justify for regular cinema users.
The card also earns GSC Reward Points. Spending at GSC, overseas and online earns 3x points, while other spending earns 1x point. Other spending of RM1,000 or more can earn an additional 1x point. Since 200 points = RM1, the 3x categories work out to about 1.5% effective value. That is decent, but it is not strong enough to make this a main rewards card.
The Gold version requires a minimum annual income of RM24,000, or a minimum fixed deposit pledge of RM2,000. That is much lower than the Platinum version. Since the long-term cinema benefits are close, Gold looks like the cleaner pick unless you specifically want the Platinum welcome tickets.
One drawback is wallet support. Although HLB supports major digital wallets in general, the GSC co-brand card does not support Apple Pay. You should also factor in the annual fee cost, since HLB annual fees may not be as easy to waive automatically as some other cards.
Verdict: The HLB GSC Gold Credit Card is best suited for regular GSC moviegoers who want ticket and cinema F&B savings without the higher requirement of the Platinum version. It gives fewer free tickets upfront, but for long-term use, it may be the more sensible GSC card for most people.
