A Practical Entry into POS Malaysia Cashback

The Bank Muamalat POS Malaysia Visa Platinum-i is the lower-tier counterpart to the POS Malaysia Visa Infinite-i, designed for cardholders who want similar cashback mechanics without the higher income barrier. With a minimum annual income requirement of just RM36,000, it significantly broadens accessibility while retaining the cardโ€™s core cashback structure.

The cashback proposition remains straightforward. Cardholders earn unlimited 1% cashback on overseas face-to-face spending, alongside a highly specialised 8% cashback on transactions at POS Malaysia terminal counters, capped at RM100 per month. While the POS Malaysia category is niche, the overseas cashback component provides consistent value for users with higher foreign spending who prefer cashback over points.

Compared to the Infinite-i version, this Platinum-i tier removes airport lounge access and reduces travel insurance coverage to RM250,000. However, it retains key protections such as outstanding balance takaful coverage and practical features like 0% instalment plans and 0% balance transfer options.

The card carries an annual fee of RM80, but this is easily waived with a minimum of 12 retail transactions per year, keeping long-term holding costs low.

Verdict: The POS Malaysia Visa Platinum-i works best as an overseas-focused cashback card with a co-branded utility angle. While it lacks lounge access and premium travel perks, its low entry requirement, simple cashback structure, and easy fee waiver make it a reasonable downgrade alternative to the Infinite-i version.
