A Straightforward BonusLink Card for Everyday Fuel and Retail Spend
The AmBank BonusLink Visa Credit Card is the lower-entry option within AmBank’s BonusLink co-branded lineup. Compared to the Visa Signature variant, this card carries a significantly lower income requirement but also a simplified and reduced rewards structure, with no airport lounge or premium travel privileges.
The earning model consists of Bonus Points and Base Points. For Shell and Parkson transactions, cardholders earn 3 BonusLink Points per RM1, capped at 3,000 Bonus Points per statement cycle. In addition, eligible spending earns Base Points. Local dining, grocery, shopping and overseas transactions (including Parkson) earn 1 Base Point per RM1, while all other eligible spending — including Shell once the bonus cap is reached — earns 1 Base Point per RM6.
In practical terms, Shell spending before the bonus cap delivers an effective return of roughly 3% in cash-equivalent value, based on the prevailing BonusLink redemption rate of 1,060 points = RM10. Once the monthly bonus cap is exhausted, returns drop materially due to the weaker base earn rate.
This card does not include airport lounge access, golf privileges or concierge services. Instead, its non-points benefits are centred on the Shell ecosystem. Cardholders receive a complimentary one-year Shell Gold Tier membership and are eligible for Shell-linked promotional campaigns such as the Shell Power Up Programme, subject to published terms and promotional validity periods.
New cardholders can earn a welcome bonus of 45,000 BonusLink Points (stated cash-equivalent value of RM424) by applying, activating and spending RM3,000 within 60 calendar days from the date of card approval.
The minimum income requirement is RM24,000 per annum. The annual fee is RM450 for the principal card and RM250 for supplementary cards. The annual fee is waived for the first two years, and from the third year onwards it is waived with a minimum of 12 retail swipes per annum.
Verdict: The AmBank BonusLink Visa Credit Card is best suited for users who regularly spend at Shell and Parkson and prefer straightforward, cash-equivalent rewards. Outside of these use cases, the lack of travel privileges and weaker general spending returns limit its appeal compared to broader cashback or rewards cards in the same income segment.
