A Broad-Based Points Card with Modest Returns
The Alliance Bank Visa Platinum Credit Card is positioned as an entry-level points card with a relatively low income requirement of RM24,000 per annum. Following its recent revision, the card adopts a more conservative rewards structure, focusing on a wider range of everyday spending categories rather than aggressive earn rates.
Cardholders earn up to 5x points on selected categories including overseas transactions, dining, groceries, petrol, and essential spending. While this category coverage is broader than the Visa Infinite variant, the rewards are largely skewed towards offline usage and do not extend to higher multipliers. As a result, the effective cost per mile remains reasonable but unremarkable compared to more specialised miles cards in the market.
The card does not include any airport lounge access, reinforcing its positioning as a general-purpose rewards card rather than a travel-focused product. From a design and usability standpoint, it incorporates a blind notch for accessibility, is produced using recycled PVC, and supports Google Pay and Samsung Pay for contactless payments.
The principal card carries an annual fee of RM120. Following the revision, standard fee waiver conditions are no longer clearly defined, although lifetime annual fee waivers continue to apply for selected customer segments such as Alliance customers with home financing facilities and Alliance Privilege or Personal customers under specific card tiers.
Verdict: The Alliance Visa Platinum is best suited for users seeking a low-entry points card with straightforward rewards across common spending categories. While its CPM remains acceptable, the lack of lounge access, modest earn rates and uncertain long-term fee waiver make it less compelling when compared to more competitive entry-level miles cards available in the market.
